Treasure of Sumatra
Lampung is a city, located on the southern tip of Sumatra. Nature is the name of the game for this small city, with forested national parks, fine sand beaches and rolling hills all within a short drive. It is surrounded by several nature preserves that offer hiking, bird-watching and wildlife viewing. The mountainous, rainforested Bukit Barisan Selatan National Park is home to endangered species such as elephants and Sumatran tigers.
Krakatau Monument — The most famous attraction in Lampung, the monument consists of a large steel maritime buoy. It serves as a memorial to those who perished in a natural disaster. In August 1883, Krakatau volcano erupted and caused a tsunami, significantly affecting the city of Lampung.
Way Kambas National Park — A home for Sumatran elephants and other animals endemic to Southern Sumatra, Way Kambas was declared an ASEAN heritage park in 2016. Originally established in 1989, the park is also well known for its small population of critically endangered Sumatran tigers and rhinoceroses.
Seruit — One of the traditional dishes of Lampung, Seruit is made from fish, fried or baked, then mixed with sambal dilan (spicy shrimp paste). Best paired with lalapan (fresh vegetables).
