The Paris of East Java

The city is situated in a mountainous area only two hours from Surabaya. Malang started out as a small provincial town but soon grew with the arrival of the Dutch during their Colonial Governmental rule over most of Indonesia. During the Dutch colonial period, it was a popular destination for European residents.
